Burns Suppers, traditionally celebrated on or about 25th January (Burns' birthday), have been part of Scottish culture for over 200 years as a means of commemorating Scotland's most famous poet. And when Burns immortalised haggis in verse, he created a central link that is maintained to this day.
The ritual was started by close friends of Burns a few years after his death in 1796 as a tribute to his memory and the basic format for the evening has remained more or less unchanged since that time from the chairman's welcome and the Selkirk grace before the meal, the address to the haggis, the meal itself, followed by a number of speeches - The Immortal Memory (an address on the works of Burns and the man himself), The Toast to the Lassies and the Reply (these generally in light-hearted vein) - then renditions of some of the works of Burns, both songs and poetry.

Final form of any programme will depend on date of Burns Supper, but may follow a similar pattern to that given below:
Fri 23rd Jan Arrive into Glasgow. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure. Attend a ceilidh in a local pub in the evening. O'nt Glasgow
Sat 24th Jan Take a city tour, making use of the hop-on, hop-off facility to visit some of the excellent museums and year round attractions this great Victorian city has to offer. O'nt Glasgow
Sun 25th Jan A further day to explore Glasgow, before attending a Burns supper in the evening. Following a meal of traditional Scottish fare, learn something of the life and times of Robert Burns, with a number of speakers talking about his poetry, Burns the man and, of course, his fondness for the lassies. This usually involves both erudition and a healthy dose of humour!!
Mon 26th Jan Return home having experienced one of the great traditions of Scottish life
The Edinburgh option would follow a similar programme, but with a ghost tour on the Friday or Saturday evening, instead of the ceilidh.
Other options with regard to dates:
It may also be possible to accommodate an arrival on Thu 22nd Jan, with departure on Sun 25th.
It may also be possible to accommodate travel on the previous weekend, as Burns Suppers are not always held on Burns Day (25th January), but can move approx a week in either direction.
